The St. Louis Metro Collegiate Instructional Baseball League consists of players between the ages of 19-22. We are proud that at least 90% of our players are attending college on athletic or academic scholarships.
In order to sharpen the skills of our players, provide better context for their performance and give ourselves a professional look, the Metro League exclusively uses wooden bats. We are a franchise of the NABF and will be sending a team to post-season play through the NABF.
The Metro Collegians Instructional League was formed by ex-professional baseball players, Major League Scouts, and area college and high school coaches with the intent to instruct boys at all age levels in the fundamentals of baseball. The League conducts baseball clinics throughout the year for coaches, boys, and girls in all age groups up to the age of 22.
If you are interested in playing in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Instructional Baseball League, please contact any of the coaches directly. Many of the phone numbers are pagers or voicemail, so please leave a message and they will return your call!
1980 Metro League Champions, St. Charles Travelers. 1980 was the first year for a St. Charles team in the league. Red Jerseys, caps and stirrups with white pants. This photo was taken down the 3rd base line at C&H Ballpark, our home field.
That year the St. Charles Travelers'
record was 25 wins, 0 losses. They were pretty stacked with talent, and even had 4 players drafted from that team.
The Roster Line-up included:
Standing left to right: Mark Garret, Tim Ruesch, Gerry Pollard, Dave Schneider, Chuck Mueller, Dan Boxell, Steve Garrow, Kevin Schaefer, Jimmy Coons
Kneeling left to right: Steve Dunnahue, Kent Keiser, Phil Barringer, Steve Boland, Deron Thomas, Randy Tiefenthaler, Paul Rosburg, Chris Wilmes, Walter Ruesch (Manager)
Not pictured: Kevin Speckhals, Randy Meyer, Scott Eicholz, Mel Preiss, Norb Hemsath (Coach)
In 1980 there were 9 teams including, St. Charles Travelers, St. Louis Browns, West County Royals, North County Dodgers, South County Indians, St. Louis Cubs, Brentwood Yankees, Alton Optimists, and a team that was based in Braggadocio, MO at Don Kessinger’s baseball facilities. Every St. Louis area team would make one weekend trip to Braggacocio to play 3 games, the first of which counted for league play.

David Freese,
2011 St. Louis Cardinals World Series Champion & MVP!!!
David played his college ball at Meramec Community College and at the University of South Alabama. He was a major contributor to Metro’s infamous 2003 league champions that eventually became NABF National Champs. He also played with our 2004 league champs as well. David was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 9th round of the 2006 amateur draft. After successful 2006 & 2007 seasons in the Padres minor league system, he was traded to the Cardinals in an offseason deal that sent Jim Edmonds to San Diego. David skipped Class “AA” ball as the Cards assigned him to Class “AAA” in Memphis, TN. He really opened some eyes while in Memphis hitting .306 with 91 RBI’s and 26 home runs. Congrats to our latest alumni to reach the “Bigs.”
Kyle Stanton and Chris Razo were awarded Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors, as announced Monday by the Valley offices in St. Louis, Mo. The honor is the second this season for Razo and the first for Stanton.
"We are very excited for Chris and Kyle to win these awards," head coach Mark Kingston said. "They are performing very well, and this recognition is much deserved."
Razo earned MVC Pitcher of the Week honors after firing his fourth complete-game of the season Friday night at Duffy Bass Field, as Illinois State defeated Creighton 9-2. The senior right-hander from Chillicothe, Ill., limited the Bluejays to two runs, one earned, on just two hits with eight strike outs. The complete-game gem, which was his third complete-game versus Valley opponents this season, improved Razo to 6-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.21. With defeats this season over Missouri State and Indiana State, Razo has emerged as one of the premiere starting pitchers in the Valley.
